University is - or at the very least has the potential to be - the very best years of your life. It's a time for making friends, learning things, not learning things because you overslept, and generally becoming a better, more rounded human being.
It's basically like school but without the parents and with the ability to spend lots of the government's money on alcohol. And you get to drop all the rubbish subjects like Chemistry and focus on something you're genuinely interested in. Even if that genuine interest is in nights out and waking up at midday.
In true student style, we've cobbled together a rag tag list of items that will improve your time at uni immeasurably - unless you have a ruler in which case they're definitely measureable. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it will hopefully set you off on the right path.
In the mean time, be sure to check out our Back to Uni section, which you can find by clicking here.
Something to write on
When you do decide to rock up to a lecture or two, it might be a good idea to make notes. There will probably be a test. If you like the colour blue and have a bit of self-confidence, this Thoughts & Doodles of an Undiscovered Genius notebook is the perfect choice. From the ever joyful Happy Jackson range, the softback notebook will signal your obvious intelligence to anyone sat next to you.
Or if you're a hardback, this droll notebook from Waldo Pancake is a good bet. The 1970s style laptop will see you through the year with plenty of smirks and wry smiles.
Something to carry things in
Once you've picked something to write on you'll need something to carry the something you're writing on. Simple. We're talking bags and satchels, and we've got quite a selection. For the ladies, how about this Love Lotters satchel from Disaster Designs? Its classic style features faded envelopes, which is much prettier than it sounds, and will be a loyal companion for years to come.
For the boys (lads) style is equally important. Musical taste is an important badge of honour, and it doesn't get much better than the Beatles. Carry John, Paul, George and Ringo with you wherever you go, and with a little help from your friends you can turn a hard day's night into yesterday. I'm sorry, let's just let it be.
Don't forget the kitchen!
Ah, the student kitchen. A minefield of mould, a residence for rats... However clean you like to keep things, the kitchen is somewhere you'll spend a lot of time, whether socialising, cooking or just making a cup of tea. Luckily we've got you covered. This colourful set of nested tins from Happy Jackson will add a splash of vibrancy to the kitchen, maybe even enough to distract you from the massive pile of dirty dishes.
Speaking of dishes, I have some pretty distressing news for you. Washing up is a part of your life from now on. Unless you have a dishwasher, in which case you're cheating. But there are small ways you can make the washing up more tolerable. Turn it into a drinking game is one obvious solution. Another is to spread some happiness and have a bloomin' Washing Up Disco! This Happy Jackson tea towel will help set the mood and get the party started: all you need are some dirty dishes and some tunes - and yes, you're allowed to sing them yourself.
