The Gruffalo is a creation of writer/playwright Julia Donaldson beautifully illustrated by Axel Scheffler. The book tells the story of a cunning and imaginative mouse taking a stroll through a deep, dark wood who manages to scare off animals trying to eat him with a story of a scary gruffalo that the mouse is about to meet. The book proved incredibly popular, winning several prizes for children's literature and has even been made into a West End and Broadway play!
