Somersault BearThis teddy bear is a genuine acrobat who can turn as many as 8 somersaults one after the other.
He has an old fashioned clock work mechanism which is wound up by turning his right arm clockwise and simultaneously holding his left arm still.
Then just sit him down on the floor and he will somersault all by himself.
The somersaulting bear was originally created by Hugo Steiff and he developed the indestructible winding mechanism which was registered as a utility patent of the Deutsches Reich on 14th November 1908.
This bear is 30cm tall, wearing a red & white ear tag he is one of a limited edition of 2,006 pieces worldwide
SteiffSteiff have been manufacturing bears and other collectable characters for over 125 years. All their cuddly companions are "made in Germany" in Steiff's own factory.
As with all those characters made in the early days, it is still the manual skills that make each Steiff product wonderfully unique.
Each Steiff bear is signified by a "Tag" in its left ear, and each of these tags has a meaning.
A Yellow Tag - identifies the bears which are produced in unlimited numbers
A White & Black Tag - identifies a limited edition bear which is a replica of one originally produced by Steiff many years ago.
A White & Red Tag - identifies a limited edition bear which will be produced as a special for the current year, or to commemorate an occasion.
